Frugal kitchen tip - stretch your dishwasher powder.

My sis, The Slightly Mad Quilt Lady put me on to this one:

Dilute your commercial dish washing powder with baking soda (soda bicarbonate).

Isn't that simple?

Sis dilutes it by half while it's in the bottle, I just put less regular stuff in the machine's dispenser and top it off with baking soda.

Green and thrifty, can't get better than that, huh?

  2. I loooove my dishwasher. Partly because it's the only part of the kitchen clean-up my husband will actually do without making a major fuss (yes, he's a big baby). Unpack and put away the dishes from the dishwasher is HIS job, so I make sure I put everything that can go in there that can possibly go in there!

  4. Cat I use just bi carb in mine! Don't even buy the proper powder, just good old bi-carb! Works a treat! and SO much greener and cheaper!
